Speak gently

This is a song written by Mindy Jostyn and Jacob Brackman, based on a poem by David Bates, used by permission. Music from the Serum Gradual, 1527. I knew Mindy. She was best friends with Carly Simon, and Jacob, her husband wrote music for Carly for many years. Mindy passed away in 2005. It was a great loss to many. Carly Simon posted it on the front of her website.
Mindy's website is still up if anyone wants to visit it. mindyjostyn.com. Thanks Mindy for being an inspiration to me.

"Speak gently, it is better far
To rule by love, not fear
Speak gently, let no harsh word harm
The good we may do here

Speak gently to the bitter ones
Forgive and comfort them
Someone's unkindness made them cruel
O win them back again

Speak gently, it's a little thing
Dropped down the heart's deep well
And still, the good it may yet bring
Eternity will tell

Speak gently, it is better far
To rule by love, not fear"

Mindy Jostyn: piano, vocals
