The Birth of The Smile Revolution

In January 2005, my beloved Dad was critically ill in the hospital in Florida. I was by his side for weeks. My Dad didn’t smile very often as he had a terrible tragedy as a child and never got over it his whole life. Our relationship was not an easy one. He was a very accomplished business man and gave a lot to the community, yet he didn’t express a lot of joy in his life. The last time I saw him conscious he gave me the biggest grin I had ever seen.

That smile was very healing for me. The next time I saw him, he had a heart attack and was in a coma. He passed about a couple of weeks after that smile.

When I left him to go back to New York to do my one woman show for a documentary film, I was interviewed before the show. Out of my mouth came,”We need a Smile Revolution on the planet.”

About 10 months later, out of the blue, a thought came to me, ” It’s time to start The Smile Revolution.” I said, “OK”. It was Christmas week and on Christmas Day I was co-hosting The Woodstock Roundtable on WDST 100.1 FM with Doug Grunther, and my whole life changed and the world was about to as well.

In January 2006, I started The Smile Revolution blog which has had about 173,000 hits as of December 2006. The Smile Revolution Radio Show started as a half hour show onJuly 16,2006 on WKNY 1490 am in Kingston, New York and as of January 2007 will be an hour show. I have celebrity guests now, celebrated authors, inspired musicians, organizations and people who are doing wonder-ful things to uplift the world.

The First Smile March in the world happened in conjunction with The Halloween Parade in Woodstock, New York 2006.

A Return to Love

‘OUR DEEPEST FEAR IS NOT THAT WE ARE INADEQUATE.
OUR DEEPEST FEAR IS THAT WE ARE POWERFUL BEYOND MEASURE.

IT IS OUR LIGHT, NOT OUR DARKNESS THAT MOST FRIGHTENS US.
WE ASK OURSELVES, WHO AM I TO BE BRILLIANT, GORGEOUS, TALENTED, FABULOUS?

ACTUALLY, WHO ARE YOU NOT TO BE?

YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD.

YOUR PLAYING SMALL DOES NOT SERVE THE WORLD.

THERE IS NOTHING ENLIGHTENED ABOUT SHRINKING SO THAT OTHER
PEOPLE WON’T FEEL INSECURE AROUND YOU.

WE ARE ALL MEANT TO SHINE, AS CHILDREN DO.

WE WERE BORN TO MAKE MANIFEST THE GLORY OF GOD THAT IS WITHIN US.

IT IS NOT JUST IN SOME OF US: IT IS IN EVERYONE.

AND AS WE LET OUT OWN LIGHT SHINE, WE UNCONSCIOUSLY GIVE OTHER
PEOPLE PERMISSION TO DO THE SAME.

AS WE ARE LIBERATED FROM OUR OWN FEAR,
OUR PRESENCE AUTOMATICALLY LIBERATES OTHERS.”  NELSON MANDELA

Woodstock on the Village Green

Picket signs,  saying “Keep Smiling and Keep Sweet” Spead the Smiles”
“One Love and One Big Grin” Join The Smile Revolution were made. We marched down Tinker Street for the first time. It was small, but it was the birth of a new idea.
It was documented professionally by a wonder-ful up and coming photographer, Oliver Brooks, Jr.
www.trackntree.com and Tess Benjamin filmed it for her local tv show in Woodstock called, Something to Talk About. She is shooting a spot all about the Revolution. This will all go in the press kit. Thanks to all who marched and documented this event.

Guardians

This is from a poster I found…
by Ann Altman

“I swear I will not dishonor my soul with hatred, but offer myself humbly as a guardian of nature, as a healer of misery, as a messenger of wonder, as an architect of peace.”

Carole King

I heard this song the other day. It’s from the 1970’s..it was a big hit.

“You’ve got to wake up every morning with a SMILE on your face and show the world all the LOVE in your heart, and people are gonna treat ya better…you are gonna find, yes you will, that you’re beautiful as you feel…”

Unity and Peace

Abraham Lincoln said,

“In sincerity and truth, let us then rest humbly in the hope, authorized by the Divine teachings, that the united cry to the Nation will be heard on high, and answered with blessings, no less the pardon of our national sins, and the restoration of our now divided and suffering country, to its former happy condition of unity and peace.”

All I can say is, “WOW!” MSF

This is a spiritual revolution

This is not a religion. This is a spiritual revolution. The majority of us have our own religions or spiritual paths and they NEED to be respected. Those who don’t, need to be honored as well. We are all unique and we are all the same. We all want to be peaceful within and we all really want peace around us. Most of us would love to see people and ourselves smiling more often than not. It’s not about your circumstances. People tell me all the time, that they have this problem and that problem and so they cannot smile. You will always have problems. If you smile anyway, I know that your life will improve and the lives around you will as well. It will continue to spiral around the world all the good you do today and all of the smiles you express. It’s contagious! The Revolution is ON!
I do quote from different religions and spiritual leaders. I am not promoting any particular path except joy, kindness, love, forgiveness, tolerance, and smiling more than not. If you post the word smile all around you, it will help you remember. You can practice nurturing these spiritual qualities and bring them out to the world today. It’s all within us to magnify the good and express the good.  Mindy “Smile” Fradkin

If you smile

“If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are truly thankful, you are blessed
because the majority can, but most do not.”

Mahatma Gandhi

But, now that The Smile Revolution is HERE, that changes everything. Remember, if you smile, you will be blessing yourself and the whole world around you..when it’s sincere.
We need all of you to contribute  to the world being happy and greatful and smiling at each other..which means world peace. It IS possible..It IS natural to be kind. I know you all have challenges. We all do. But, they can be met, by leaning on a higher power that is here, now to help us all.

MIndy Fradkin-Mousaa aka Princess Wow

People have asked me to talk a little about myself..

I am a woman of many hats..literally and figuratively. My husband calls me a “galaxy.”
Artist, performer, and spiritual seeker since a child.
Performer of my own one woman shows, previous radio show host, baker, hat artist, jewelry designer, writer, greeting card maker, eventertainer  with hats for events and birthday parties, promoter, Founder of The Smile Revolution. I have been featured in The New York Times, on “Good Day New York” four times, on different news programs, featured on Westchester 12 and Connecticut 12 and other publications for my Hat Happenings.
I am married to Victorio “Roland” Mousaa, a wonderful, loving, kind and extremely talented man(www.rolandechobirds.com) and we have a wonder-ful cat named Penelope Tree aka The Queen of WOW, who is white with a black tail and black ears..and is total love itself. She is named after a top model from the 1970’s in New York.
My public persona is Princess Wow!
I grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. My Mom Dotti(we called her Muz) was a beautiful, talented poet, interior designer, fashion model and was one of the top sales people in all of Nordstrom’s stores. She married three times. Muz always had a beautiful smile. After she passed on, she had a big smile on her face which told us that she was fine. My Dad and Uncle were in the furniture  business for many years. My Dad married Sherry when I was 4 years new. They adopted four boys, Steven, Todd, Greg and Brad. My cousin, Mark, was one of my first fans of my one woman show. I performed at my third grade birthday party and he talked about it for many years.  My grandmother commited suicide when my Dad was 9, and he never got over it his whole life. It affected me terribly too.  I have had many challenges in my life in many ways, yet my thirst for spiritual truths and developing myself as an artist/performer got me through and with the help of many people. I applaud all of the wonder-ful people who I met as a child and as an adult  who took me under their wing who love me and supported me. Without these people and I thank most of them on this blog, I would not have made it. I am eternally greatful to God-Love. Special thanks for Mary Poppiins and Laura Moliter for their constant support and love. They are my soul sisters. I also want to thank cousin Ed Kovens and the late Uncle Stanley(aka Uncle WOW) for their love and support. Thanks to my late father, Bob Fradkin, who on his deathbed, gave me a big grin and that smile changed my life.
I have lived in Los Angeles and New York and other places in between..but have hung my hat in New York State the longest…Roland, Penelope, our cat, aka The Queen of WOW and I live in Beacon, New York. We love it.

Theme Song for girls who are “Brownies”

I was a “Brownie” when I was a little girl. When you graduate from being a Brownie, you can become a “Girl Scout”.

“I have something in my pocket that belongs upon my face. I keep it very close to me in the most convenient place. I bet you wouldn’t guess it if you guessed a long, long while. I will take it out and put it on. It’s a great, big Brownie SMILE!”
